Dublin 4 Food Guide
Baan Thai
16 Merrion Rd, Ballsbridge, D4
T: +353 (0)1 660 8833
Step out of Ballsbridge into a slice of Thailand. Thai furniture, Thai staff and lots of lovely Thai dishes are the signature of the Baan Thai. Beginners should note that there are lots of set menus to help you get acquainted with the artful cuisine.
Bella Cuba
11 Ballsbridge Terrace, Ballsbridge, D4
T: +353 (0)1 660 5539
A little touch of the exotic in Ballsbridge, this popular upstairs room is informal and inexpensive and the cooking has a quixotic touch of the Cuban.
Dunne & Crescenzi
11 Seafort Avenue, Sandymount, Dublin 4
T+353 (0) 1 6673252
The authentic Italian experience just a few minutes walk from the RDS.

Expresso Bar
1 St Mary’s Rd, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4
T:+353 (0)1 660 0585
They do things well in The Expresso, which explains why this cool room is so popular. The food is simple, modern and popular, the crowd is stylish and it’s great for brunch.
The French Paradox
53 Shelbourne Rd, Ballsbridge, D4
T: +353 (0)1 660 4068
The French Paradox is fantastic fun with truly great French wines and a small selection of foods cooked carefully. The atmosphere in this little upstairs room really can’t be beaten and don’t miss the salad Bill Hogan, which uses one of the great West Cork cheeses.
Kites Restaurant
15-17 Ballsbridge Terrace, Ballsbridge, D4
T: +353 (0)1 660 7415
The design of this Chinese restaurant is pleasingly uncliched and while the food boasts influences from various styles of Chinese cooking, it is well thought out and usually very tasty indeed.
Lobster Pot Restaurant
9 Ballsbridge Terrace, Ballsbridge, D4
T:+353 (0)1 668 0025
The Lobster Pot is an ageless, changeless place. The cooking is straightforward cordon bleu which means they show you the fist they have, you choose what you’d like, then they take it away, cook it and match it with lots of butter and cream and booze. Service is only excellent.
Bewleys Hotel
Merrion Rd, Ballsbridge, D4
T: +353 (0)1 647 3400
Right from the popular breakfasts through to dinner. Great value, great atmosphere, and this is one of the hottest destinations in the city.
The Pavilion (Herbert Park Hotel)
Off Ballsbridge Terrace, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4
T: +353 (0)1 667 2200
The Pavilion is an elegant room within the Herbert Park Hotel, and in the fine summer weather they set up tables on the terrace. The cooking is modern and international.
Roly’s Bistro
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin 4
T: +353 (0)1 668 2611
Roly’s big upstairs room is light and rumbustious (though some find it loud when it gets full, as it usually is). Whilst there can be an unevenness because of the large numbers (every night is Saturday night) you can still enjoy food here from head chef Paul Cartwright.
Seasons (Four Seasons Hotel)
Merrion Rd, Ballsbridge, D4
T: +353 (0)1 665 4805
A grand, capacious dining room with food that is smart, very light and cooked with great care. Prices are high, but as a treat it’s something special, and do pay particular attention to the extraordinary and very beautiful flower arrangements.

Furama Chinese Restaurant
88 Donnybrook Rd, Dublin 4
T:+353 (0)1 283 0522
Furama is a Chinese restaurant which makes the minimum of culinary compromises for its clientele which allows chef Freddie Lee to produce food that is always interesting. There are, of course, lots of standard items on the menu, but it’s the more unusual dishes that are most exciting.
